PGA Teaching Staff

Lead by the brother tandem of Dick and Tom Smith, the DSGA has assembled a formable team of PGA Golf Professionals to administer the instruction programs.

Dick and Tom have over 100 years of experience in the golf business, including extensive expertise in playing and teaching the game of golf.



A former President of the PGA of America (1991-92), Dick has spent his professional career serving a variety of clubs as Golf Professional, Director of Golf and General Manager. His experience as a 55 year PGA Member includes duties at member equity private clubs, privately owned exclusive golf clubs and municipal and private owned daily fee facilities.

In recent years Dick served as Director of Golf at Bethpage State Park, New York. For four years he worked with world renowned architect Rees Jones, the State of New York and the USGA in preparing for the 2002 US Open Championship. In 1992 he lead the development of the Galloway National Golf Club near Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Tom Fazio designed club is ranked in the top 100 private clubs in America. Additionally, he spent 13 years as the Head Golf Professional at the Woodcrest Country Club, a private equity club in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Dick is an accomplished player. He has participated in 13 major championships including the US Open and US Senior Open, the PGA and Senior PGA Championships and the Senior British Open. He is a five time Philadelphia Section PGA Champion and six time Philadelphia Section PGA Player of the Year. Dick was a charter inductee into the Philadelphia Section PGA Hall of Fame in 1992. In 2005 he was elected to the PGA Hall of Fame in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

During his time leading the 28,000+ members of the PGA of America as it's Secretary, Vice President and President he served on the PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour Policy Boards and was member of the Augusta National Master's Rules Committee.




For more than 30 years, Tom Smith has served as Director of Golf, Head Golf Professional and General Manager for public, private, resort and golf learning facilities.  In 1986, the Philadelphia Section PGA named him Golf Professional of the Year...their highest award.  Several of Tom's assistant professionals have gone on to successful and distinguished careers as head professionals and he lists two Pennsylvania State Junior Champions among his former students.

Representing some of the leading golf equipment companies, including Arnold Palmer Golf, Ben Hogan Golf and Adams Golf for almost 15 years, Tom brings a high level of technical expertise to the custom club fitting program at DSGA.

His teaching experience includes individual and group instruction for men, women, juniors, and seniors, with special emphasis on teaching the physically challenged and visually impaired golfers.  He is particularly interested in the use of digital imaging equipment for swing analysis as a more efficient and effective way to improve the golf swing and the resulting golf shot.



Bob Ewing has been a Golf Professional since 1995. In that time Bob's career has taken from the Municipal course of Philadelphia to West Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. During his time managing facilities, Bob has stressed a need to grow the game. In doing so the importance of having Junior Golf programs and Ladies programs has been a constant focus for Bob.

  Bob Helped develop the first Police Athletic League (PAL) Junior Golf Program. To this day over 100 inner city children get a week long experience in golf, from learning the fundamentals to actually playing on the course itself. That program is still running today and is one of the keystones to the PAL Summer curriculum. As Bob has moved to different facilities, his excitement to grow golf has followed. Starting Junior and Ladies golf programs at each facility with much success at each one.

  Bob has been with the Dick Smith Golf Academy for three seasons and is currently makes his golf home at the Bittersweet Golf Club in Elkton, Maryland.



Greg Keil is a PGA Professional residing in Blackwood, NJ. Greg was introduced to the game of golf at the age of 14 through the Winslow Township High School Golf Team. At the age of 16 Greg received the opportunity to join the Golf Course Maintenance Staff at Pine Valley Golf Club in Clementon, NJ. Pine Valley is a world-renowned golf club that is annually ranked as #1 course in Golf Digest. After an accomplished high school career that included Olympic Conference Individual Champion, First Team All-Conference, and New Jersey Group 4 State Tournament Participant, combined with a 3 year stint at Pine Valley, Greg received an academic scholarship to attend Coastal Carolina University and participate in the Professional Golf Management program. Greg spent four years at Coastal Carolina University and earned a degree in Finance along with election to PGA Class A Membership in August of 2009. Throughout college Greg completed various internships including Woodcrest Country Club (2 seasons), Olympia Fields Country Club, and Quail Creek Golf Club. Greg moved to Chicago upon graduation and spent 3 seasons as the First Assistant PGA Golf Professional at Olympia Fields Country Club (host of 5 Major Championships including the US Open and PGA Championship). In the winter of 2012, Greg moved back home to Philadelphia and joined the professional staff at Whitemarsh Valley CC in Lafayette, Hill PA and spent two seasons focusing on private and group instruction along with junior golf programs. Greg has had the privilege to work alongside and attend seminars featuring the best golf instructors in the world during his ten years in the business. These instructors include: Jim McLean, Mike Bender, Hank Haney, Chuck Cook, Martin Hall, Stan Utley, Jim Flick, Todd Anderson, Dave Stockton, Randy Smith, Mike Malaska, Dana Rader, Michael Breed, and Billy Fitzgerald. Greg is very excited to be back in the South Jersey area and is eager to grow the instructional programs offered under the Dick Smith Golf Academy at Valleybrook CC.
